When one Marcus Hook resident starting looking beyond the floors and walls of his home what he found was remarkable. Michael Manerchia, started by finding broken bits of a plate under the flooring of his home he was in the process of remodeling. The bits of plate have now turned into 30,000 artifacts and his home has become an active archeological dig.
After consultation about what might be going on with the house, they discovered that the home was a rare “Plank House,” meaning the construction materials were harvested from a ship in the early 18th century. When all of the discoveries came to light, the renovation was put on hold and the house is currently being turned into a museum.
Looking beyond the walls of your home is an exercise in reflection of what could be covered up and what came before. For the full story and gallery of photos click on the below link.
